With the small group students of 2nd year (8 in total!) we decided to create a radio play, taking as ground Exploration college itself. We are working on principles of writing based on walking, exploring the place and fictional excesses possible. In a second step we conducted an exploration of the place equipped with a recording device. From a plan established under way - we went to meet various "characters" on campus and have collected quite a few "pearls" ... thanks to the participation of technicians, librarians, cafeteria servers, etc. . Special attention during our wanderings was made to sound presence in the rough - the sound of the clock, many students, voice distant from a course in philosophy through the door of a lecture hall, the sound of the coffee machine ... short, a sound field that shows where we stand and we were able to hear things that we were so little sensitive.
Now we start the editing and layout of all this material (texts for students and sound material) to a final form that the students decided to give the following: In the middle of college
The difficulty now - as in any process of writing and editing - is to give all this material a coherent, readable, punctuated, and of course fun. As it is a course and that I particularly like the idea that everyone can produce and discover his own work process - I decided that we will work collectively an introduction - say a generic (which is already almost over!) and that everyone responsible for the execution of an episode. To maintain consistency with the overall shape - I ask everyone to work on a specific location on campus and we propose a drift between raw documentary material - sound material and his own textual production. Thus the final shape should resemble a kind of "tour" - each "episode" corresponding to a place - a character and text to follow ...!
